Craig Stewart Johnson & Madelaine Culver – [untitled]

[untitled] is a collaborative project which brings together the audio and visual practices of Craig Stewart Johnson and Madelaine Culver to explore the notion of language beyond traditional understandings and expectations of the written word.

Engaging with the lived-body experience of perception, the project exists as a continuous feedback loop in which Craig and Madelaine’s respective practices intuitively respond to one another to create a sequence of interconnected sounds that are transduced, amplified, processed, and manipulated at the same time as being visually captured.

Bringing together Craig and Madelaine’s distinct and overlapping research interests, the experimental practices of asemic writing and sound art are used collectively to develop a set of actions that can be explored, transcribed, and reinterpreted to produce an audio/visual language that challenges binary understandings of semantic meaning.
