About
Craig Stewart Johnson.
Born 1989 in Gateshead, UK.
Interdisciplinary artist and researcher.
My artwork focuses on the detail and nuance of everyday textures, spaces and places. Works are often minimal in composition and concerned with spatiotemporality. There is an pre-occupation with the aesthetics of DIY culture running through my work where analogue methods of production combine with an interest in improvisation and collaboration. I consider all work to be part of an ongoing, constantly shifting work-in-process.
I run the Invisible City Records label (established in 2014) releasing works on limited-edition cassettes and CD.
I publish audio work and perform under the name Rovellasca and in the duo Liminal Haze with Ross Scott-Buccleuch, alongside other one off projects.
Sounds revolve around cassette textures, minimal drones, entropic decay and dystopian synth.

I am currently undertaking my Ph.D. Northumbria University with a research project titled Self-organisation, economies and ecologies in the no-audience underground.
My research is concerned with understanding how the collective actions of individuals within experimental music look to produce and sustain a series of trans-local scenes, constantly questioning and reconfiguring their external contexts.
